Almost a month back I posted some thoughts about a post [and insuing discussion] by David Fitch on the myth of expository preaching. The original post stirred quite the controversy on Out of Ur. The promised second part seemed to take forever to be posted. When it was... it sprouted a third post as well. It appears that Out of Ur is milking it for all its worth. Before posting the second part of the series, Fitch posted this - a sort of rebuttal to some of the commenters on the original post.
I think that David brings up some incredibly valid points about the elevating of expository preaching from a way to the way to teach the text. Yet what I find even more fascinating are some of the outrageous comments by some of the readers. Again, I wish I could say that I am suprised, but alas... I am not. If you are involved in teaching the Scriptures on a regular basis, read at your own risk, as your blood pressure level is sure to increase dramatically. I did, and mine did. [even to the point that I jumped into the conversation on the second post].
Don't say I didn't warn you.
