Our team hit a slump this week, losing both of our games. Our defense has just been killing us - too many mental mistakes and errors. Just when it seems like were putting something together, we haven't gotten the key hit or we've made some wacko play in the field. Needless to say, frustration abounds.
On Thursday night, we lost 11-6 to the Pirates. It was an ugly game from the get go. Josh was our starting pitcher as we gave up four runs in the first inning, only two of which were earned [when one of their kids hit a two run homerun]. He settled down and threw two more innings not allowing a run and striking out three. We mounted a little bit of a comeback, but it was too little, too late - too many errors in the field despite pretty descent pitching. Josh went 3 for 4 with three singles and three runs driven in.
This morning, the error parade continued, as we lost 7-4 to the Cubs. We were in this one until we gave up an inside the park homerun on a grounder to first base. Yes, first base. Our first baseman threw it away, as did our right fielder as the runner was going to second, as did our left fielder when the guy was trying to score. Yeah, it was that kind of day. We're just not hitting as a team either. Josh threw one inning, retiring the side in order with two strikeouts. He also went 1 for 3 with a single and one RBI.
So we're 4-3-1 heading into the much needed two week break. We need to find our rhythm again...
