Jamie and I have been talking lately about what Christmas has become. Perhaps it is remembering the past, when as kids you used to approach Christmas with a sense if wonder and awe. Perhaps it is the state of the economy. Perhaps it is something deeper...
I think what we are longing for is something more from the season - to not miss the essence of what the advent is all about by being blinded by all the season has become. It is refreshing to see things like the Advent Conspiracy.
It is a reminder that we are not alone in our hope for something better this season.
Thanks for posting that video...I loved it! Great reminder :)

That is a cool video. And it seems each year Christmas time gets less and less meaningful to me. And it's probably due to a combination of the commercialization (i.e. ridiculous spending), all the broken families trying to pretend like they are not broken, the fact that there are no children in my life with that sense of awe/wonder, and an overall burn-out with every single branch, denomination, and sub-division of the church. I know that sounds cynical, but all those factors are there and area reality for so many people. Which is why there are movies like _Four Christmas'_. I hope and pray for a more meaningful season this year.
On an economic note: I completely understand how wasteful and ridiculous Americans are with spending money on the Holidays. However, it bothers me that is still kind of a necessary evil in order to keep the economy from not completely falling apart. I don't want to see people caught up in materialism, but at the same time I don't want to see more companies going out of business and laying people off. Awww the complexities of life.
Thanks for the insights and thoughts Mike!
