That's about all you can say. The entire night was flat out amazing! From the first song, through the entire 18 song set, we pretty much stood there amazed. Perhaps one of the best shows we've ever seen. We went with some great friends of ours Chris and Devon, and met up with Stephen and Colleen who lead worship at South County United and are quality people.
After "enduring" Black Mountain [none of us were really impressed] and 45 minute break, Coldplay came on. I think Stephen put it best when he said, "Ya know, it's not everyday that you hear a band that is even better live than they are on disc." True. Coldplay was sonically tight, really tight. Some people can reproduce what they do in the studio, and then there are those bands that can take what they did in the studio, bring it live and take it to another level.
The show opened with Square One with a huge countdown clock on the video screen behind the band. The clock counted down through the intro to the song. When it hit 00:00, the song [and show] kicked in full throttle. Sound. Lighting. Video Imaging. Energy... like nothing else. Flat out amazing. I think what stood out the most was the depth of sound. There's a lot of sound coming from just four guys.
The other crowd highlight was the stripped down combo of Till Kingdom Come and Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire, both dedicated to the memory of Johnny Cash. Both were classy and pulled off well - showing a completely different sound for Coldplay. Hhhmm Coldplay doing Johnny Cash... now there's something you don't expect. Hopefully they'll explore more of that.
All in all it was a great night. Great friends. Great conversation. And a phenominal show!
