Like so many people, I was completely shocked by the news of Kyle Lake's death. While I had never met him personally, we have many, many friends in common. Kyle was the lead pastor at UBC, the church founded by Chris Seay and where David Crowder the the boys call home. As you could imagine this is a numbing loss for the Seays, the Crowders, and everyone at UBC.
It appears that while condicting a baptism at their church, and standing in the water, Kyle reached for a microphone and was electrocuted. He was taken to a local hospital, but never was able to be brought back. He passed away shortly thereafter.
Kyle was an author with Relevent Books, writing a couple of great pieces. In addition, he was one of the most innovative church leaders around - a pioneer in re-imaging what church could be in this culture. The church has lost someone very special.
He is survived by his wife, Jenn and three young children. Many have eulogized Kyle, much better than I ever could, so here's a sampling...
David Crowder
Tony Jones
Dan Kimball
Brian McLaren
Marko
Chris Seay
Please join the many of us who are praying at this time for Kyle's wife and children, as well as the UBC community. May the shalom of God be theirs at this time.
UBC is putting together a collection of thoughts on the impact and memory of Kyle, called Footprints. If you'd like to send along some thoughts, you can do so there.
