Over the past few years, it's become a tradition for our clan to head down to the San Clemente pier for the fireworks and festivities... and this year was no exception.
The newspaper said that due to the heat there might be upwards of a half a million people at Orange County beaches on the fourth, they weren't joking... I've never seen it so packed.
We were lucky to get a parking spot in San Clemente , as many people parked miles away and had to walk in. On a hope, we drove down near the pier looking for a spot and were rewarded with a prime spot near the Beachcomber Motel, which is on the bluff just south of the pier.
We found a spot on grassy area of the bluff and set up camp for the day. Smashball, a little body boarding, napping, the building of various sand structures, and meeting new people on our little grassy knoll were on the agenda. There as a pretty good rip current all day, in fact reports were that over 1,500 people needed to be pulled from the water, including over 350 just in San Clemente.
Anyway, the day was completely restful and refreshing. We walked over to Adam and Kelly's place for a little BBQ and beverages before heading back down to our grassy knoll for the fireworks.
There truly is nothing better than a restful day of sunshine, good weather, great food, and a spectacular firework show off the end of the pier with our friends and family.
Ah, yes...
Awesome! We were there last year (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qg3yiAeJobU) and loved it! We be there this year on Aug. 4. Can't wait!
