I really enjoyed this post. One question that stands out to me is if you know whether the Qumran community developed any messianic themes of a "Suffering Servant." Since they believed in multiple Messiahs I was wondering if they caught on to this notion.

Ok, so I'm about 300 pages in on Richard Bauckham's "Jesus and the Eyewitnesses" and I highly recommend it. It is a very useful rethinking of Gospel development and formation. It has Wright, Dunn, and Hengel's kudos on the back and it seems very well-deserved. Anyways, just a heads-up on that. Hope you're well.

Imagine that you have tickets to see Bruce Springsteen in concert... live... front row.

Whether or not you're a Springsteen fan, you're stoked.

And then you get there... the crowd is crazy... and the guys announces, "And now... THE BOSS!!!!"

Only instead of Bruce coming out, actor Rick Moranis takes the stage and begins singing, "Born in the USA."

I wonder sometimes if this is how the Jews feel, while we say, "Well, you know, he did do Sprinsteen songs so technically..."
